There are many seaports in the world where people can lay down in lounges and watch how ships disappear on the horizon. So there are platforms for observation over taking off and landing planes near every airport. These places appear spontaneously by people whose motives to observe soaring steel birds are difficult to explain by words. It is possible to assume that they want to fly over snow-white clouds, or maybe planes are transferring their souls to the mysterious uncharted countries, or maybe these machines of steel are like unrealizable human dreams rising into the air. After all, man always envied birds, he wanted to be there – in serenity. He wanted to wave the wings and to appear there, whence "earth" life seems like an abstract stains.
However there is also another approach to observe over planes called “Spotting”. This is the hobby of another sense - it’s more technical, rational, manly and dangerous. Spotting is accompanied with taking videos and photos of planes where the most interesting parts are takeoffs and landings of flying machines, planes models, colors of a fuselage, airline companies and board numbers. Spotters gather along the concrete fence which is fencing a runway and tacking photos with powerful telephoto lenses. True Spotters differs from simple romantic gapers like a fighter jet differs from the Boeing. These guys are seriously prepared: they have multichannel portable radio sets, photo and video cameras, binoculars. They listen to radio waves of pilots and dispatchers negotiating to expect the necessary flight, to find out from which way the plane will come down for a landing. And besides they know their rights perfectly in case if airport security wants to give them any trouble. Among the Spotters of Koltsovo there are some persons which come to runway for many years like on a job. They are summoned there by the love to planes and to the sky, to capture these unique moments of landings and takeoffs. And like every true love it isn't scared of security services, weather, a season, spent time or monetary expenses.
It is curious that being in the plane, even for the first time, passengers lose interest in a landscape behind a window after a while and starting to read magazine from the back of the next armchair, or watching a film, or falling asleep. Dazzling blue turns to a boring landscape like an infinite sequence of trees behind a window of a fast train. The same people are looking into the sky and they don’t have a slightest desire to appear on a board of a plane, their bodies become weightless, the head is slightly dizzy and there is some feeling awakens in their chests.
P.S. In some countries Spotting has the official status – during certain time in the designated areas. In our country this is still very rare.
